These audio lessons use vocalizations to learn the rhythm called Baladi. This rhythm is a very popular Middle Eastern rhythm commonly used in Belly Dance. Although the use of vocalizations to learn rhythms is not new Dennis has come up with a great method of learning the rhythms quickly and easily. The method consists of several steps with each step being a separate song/track. Each track is long enough to be used as a play along practice track.
The tracks/steps are
1 Introduction - Includes the specific vocalizations for each tone on the drum and the basic playing technique for each tone
2 vocalization only - this the rhythm vocalized so that the student can learn the rhythm through vocalizing the rhythm without having to try to play the drum at the same time.
3 full vocalization with drum - this track is the drum and vocalization playing together.
4 partial vocalizations with drum - this track is the drums being played throughout while the vocalization drops in and out of the rhythm. This allows the student to play along with the tracks and use the vocalizations to help them stay on the rhythm.
5 drums only - this is a play along track with the drum.
6. Baladi at normal speed - featuring drummer Judy Piazza on Dumbek. Since this is a beginners level instructional tool it is being taught at a much slower speed than if the rhythm was being played in a performance or for dancers. This last track is played at a performance speed so that the student will be able to experience the rhythm played at it’s normal speed. This track is from my latest Dennis' latest cd called “Rhythmspirit” featuring one of my favorite drummers Judy Piazza on dumbek.
